//////////////////////////////////////// a comprehensive guide on how to rock

 ABOUT

So who are the cool chicks in the photo? That's me and my best friend Lauren, circa 2004 (ages 15 and 17 respectively).  We thought it'd be cool if we had all of these photos of us playing instruments in places we shouldn't be playing instruments (laundromat, parking lot, field, etc). We only got as far as the lake and we were so tired and sweaty after that one adventure (It was July in Texas, after all) that we packed up and went home.

I hardly even knew how to play the drums at the time, although I was fairly familiar with guitar, but we thought we were so cool. And we were! We didn't play any shows but we spent almost every afternoon practicing at Lauren's parents house in Belton, TX. I'd hack away at the drum set her parents had bought her for Christmas and she'd wail. We didn't have any words or vocals even though she was an amazing singer - we didn't need any!

There was nowhere to really play music in our small town except for coffee houses or people's backyards so that's precisely what we did. We'd play small free shows for our friends and generally just try to have fun.

Since then Lauren and I have actually gotten pretty good at our instruments and play plenty of shows around Austin are friends with tons of other people cool bands. Can you believe it? Well you should, because you can do it too! It may take a little while to get started and on your feet (it took me years of practice) but the potential is absolutely within you.

I hope you enjoy the site and if you are going to go out and take cool band photos in July - at least wear some shorts!
